New customs law bill introduced
A Mexican lawmaker said that her country’s ports of entry must be more than trading sites, but gateways to prosperity.
Congresswoman Nancy Sánchez, a Mexicali member of the governing Institutional Revolutionary Party, made her party’s speech regarding the new Customs Law bill introduced in Mexican Congress. “In a globalized world, trade must become dynamic and fast at ports of entry to address this century’s challenges,” she said. “Tijuana is one of the busiest trading sites in the country and one of the places where customs agencies request more importation pediments.”
The new law would modernize and strengthen ports of entry, by incorporating best international practices, creating agencies to grant operational continuity and invest in infrastructure, training and development.
At the same time, the proposal seeks to make reporting of goods more flexible, reduce paper use through the use of technology, protect copyright laws and bring certainty to companies by a certification process.
