Refugio Aguilar, resident of El Centro, loving wife, mother, grandmothe­r, and great grandmothe­r passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Friday, April 20, 2018 at the age of 91.

Refugio a.k.a. Cuquita was born in Mazatlan, Sinaloa, Mexico. She was a laborer for most of her early life while residing in Niland, CA. She worked as a harvester during tomato and grape seasons. She later moved to El Centro where she worked at Imperial Hardware in the giftwrap department for 15 years. Refugio was well known throughout the Imperial Valley as a great masseuse. She felt joy in helping others with her healing hands. She was highly praised for her massages. Refugio was also very active in her church community at Gods Assembly in Heber, CA. Refugio will be remembered for her love for others, her family, and fashion. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her parents Francisca and Jose Escobar; sister, Angela Aragon; brother, David Escobar; daughter, Felipa Zumaya; grandson, Charlie Zumaya, and husband Guillermo Aguilar.

Refugio left to cherish her memory; daughter, Marta Estela Navarro of El Centro; daughter, Yolanda Jimenez of Indio; sister, Socorro Patel of Mexicali; grandchild­ren, Carla Martinez of Rancho Bernardo, CA, Jesse and Isaac Jimenez of Indio, Mike Banaga and Albert Navarro of Calexico, Chrissty Zumaya, Monica Beltran, Angie Santillan and Daniel Navarro of El Centro. She had many great-grandchild­ren and a host of other relatives and friends who brought great joy to her later years.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at Frye Chapel and Mortuary in Brawley, CA. Funeral Services will be held at Frye Chapel and Mortuary on Friday, April 27 at 10 a.m., burial will immediatel­y follow at Riverview Cemetery in Brawley, CA.
