The Calexico City Council tonight will be asked to take the first step in an annexation to the city of Calexico International Airport and the International Golf and Country Club.
Annexation of the country club and golf course has been discussed for many years but no action has been taken.
It was explained several weeks ago that both the airport land and the country club annexations would come under the uninhabited land portion of the law.
Under this section, the agency having the most land is able to vote in the annexation despite protest from other owners of smaller properties involved. In this case, the airport has acreages greater than that of the golf course.
Legal title of 99.21 acres, the east half of the airport, will be cleared up during the annexation, it was reported. The property now is listed in county records as the property of the state of California.

Supervisor Abe Seabolt announced today it appears the state is now willing to sink between $29.7 million and $54.9 million into completing the widening of Highway 86 to a four-lane highway from five miles south of the Highway 78 intersection all the way into Brawley.
He told the Board of Supervisors today there also may be enough money available to widen a stretch of Highway 111 from Interstate 8 north to Aten or Worthington Road and to put in an interchange on Highway 86 at the Salton/Borrego Seaway in Salton City.
Seabolt said he was able to come up with the possible funding through his work with the Southern California Association of Government Executive Committee and CalTrans.
“I’m happy and everyone in the room should be,” Seabolt said. “I couldn’t wait to tell you.”
