RYAN THOMAS HARMON
Ryan Thomas Harmon, 37, of Imperial, Calif., died April 21, 2018, in a tragic boating accident at Lake Ferguson.
Ryan was born in El Centro, Calif., on Sep- tember 22, 1980, to parents Larry and Peggy (Bigham) Harmon. Growing up, Ryan loved playing baseball at Sunbeam Little League and football at El Centro Pop Warner. He was also active in McCabe 4-H, where as a member of the Swine Club, he learned to raise pigs and show them at the California Mid-Winter Fair.
Ryan attended Central Union High School, demonstrating his strong athletic abilities playing both varsity basketball and football. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Marissa, and after a short pursuit, he won her over and the two became inseparable. Ryan and Marissa were married on December 22, 2000, moved to Imperial and became the proud parents of Tyler, 12, and Audrey, 9.
In 2002, he became a correctional officer at Calipatria State Prison, where he achieved the rank of sergeant. His dedication to his career could be seen in his continuous training and interaction with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies.
Ryan was an avid fisherman, a passion he learned from his father. Together they spent a lot of time on the water doing what they enjoyed best – bass fishing at the Colorado River as well as saltwater fishing in San Diego. After his father passed away in 2016, Ryan carried on the love of the sport.
But what meant the most to him was spending time with his friends and extended family, especially his wife and children. Everyone who knew him would agree that Ryan loved to have fun and was the life of the party. He spent the fall and winter rooting for the Indianapolis Colts, and summers in San Diego, watching the Padres, barbequing and boating on Mission Bay.
Ryan was proceeded in death by his father Larry and brother-in-law Jorge Figueroa Jr. He is survived by his wife Marissa; son, Tyler; daughter, Audrey; his mother, Peggy; in-laws Jorge and Rita Figueroa; brothers, Larry, Shawn and Todd; sister-in-law, Rita Guillen, and brothers-in-law Ruben Guillen and Rocky Figueroa.
Ryan will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family, both in the Imperial Valley and beyond.
A mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church in El Centro, Tuesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. , and immediately followed by a burial service at Evergreen Cemetery in El Centro.
