Shooting leaves one hospitalized
A 30-year-old male El Centro resident was hospitalized Monday night after being involved in a shooting incident in the 600 block of Brighton Avenue, El Centro Police Department announced.
The victim, whose name was undisclosed, suffered a single gunshot wound and was treated for his injuries after being transported via ambulance to El Centro Regional Medical Center.
The 30-year-old male was the only person reported injured in the incident, which preliminary information suggests may have been gang-related.
According to witness reports, the incident occurred after a four-door, light-colored sedan occupied by several persons was following someone in the area.
A passenger armed with a handgun then exited the vehicle and fired toward a group of individuals in the area.
After receiving numerous calls in reference to shots fired, ECPD officers were dispatched at approximately 7:30 p.m. Monday to the 300 block of Sixth Street.
Numerous callers reported hearing anywhere from three to seven gunshots in the north alley of the 600 block of Brighton.
When officers arrived on scene, they located several subjects in the area of an address located in the 600 block of Brighton. Officers later discovered and assisted the male gunshot victim at the scene.
The incident was turned over to the ECPD Investigations Division, and ECPD requests that anyone with information that could assist in the identifying the suspects or the vehicle to contact Detective Meneses at (760) 335-4666.
