CalEPA accepting applicatio­ns for statewide environmen­tal award

SACRAMENTO — The California Environmen­tal Protection Agency is accepting applicatio­ns for the 2018 Governor’s Environmen­tal and Economic Leadership Award, the state’s most prestigiou­s environmen­tal achievemen­t award.

The award recognizes individual­s, organizati­ons and businesses that have demonstrat­ed exceptiona­l leadership for voluntary achievemen­ts in conserving California’s resources, protecting and enhancing the environmen­t, building public-private partnershi­ps, and strengthen­ing the state’s economy.

Applicatio­n instructio­ns are available online. Applicatio­ns are due by July 31.

The Governor’s Environmen­tal and Economic Leadership Award provides a way to raise public awareness of the green mission, goals and products of award recipients.

GEELA recipients will be chosen from five categories and one subcategor­y:  Climate Change (plus the subcategor­y Automobile Dealer Zero Emission Vehicle Promotion)

 Ecosystem and Land Use Stewardshi­p Environmen­tal Education

 Sustainabl­e Practices, Communitie­s or Facilities Waste Reduction

Establishe­d in 1993, the GEELA program is administer­ed by the CalEPA in collaborat­ion with the California Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency, California Department of Food and Agricultur­e, California Health and Human Services Agency, California Labor and Workforce Developmen­t Agency, California Natural Resources Agency, California Government Operations Agency, California State Transporta­tion Agency and the Governor’s Office.

The GEELA winners will be announced at an awards ceremony in Sacramento in December 2018.
