Drone with grenades falls into official’s residence

A drone loaded with two grenades and a video-camera fell Tuesday morning into the Secretary of Public Safety’s residence in Tecate.

According to police logs, the drone was found at 7:40 a.m. at Secretary Gerardo Sosa Olachea’s home located at kilometer 4 of the Ensenada Highway at Colonia Los Laureles subdivision.

Authorities said police officers observed two drones flying over the residence, and one of them fell down.

In a press release, the agency confirmed the incident.

Although the department said Secretary Olachea does not live in the residence but in Mexicali, Zeta newspaper said the official was exiting the house when the drone fell.

Olachea attributed the incident to the strategy against crime in the state and the significant amount of drugs and guns seized, as well as the suspects arrested in the last months.

“We will double our efforts in coordination with the three levels of government to arrest criminals who attempt to act above the law and affect the tranquility in our communities,” he said.
