One killed, one injured in vehicle collision
Two men, one of whom died, were injured after being involved a single-vehicle collision Tuesday night near Beal Road, California Highway Patrol announced.
The name of the deceased man, a 62-year-old San Diego resident who was driving has yet to be released pending notification of next of kin, ICSO coroner deputy W.B. Caldwell said Thursday.
The passenger, Felipe Jesus Marquez, 28, of Niland, reportedly sustained major injuries, including cuts to his face and hands.
The collision occurred about 11:20 p.m., when the two men were traveling in a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 westbound on Beal, west of the Highland Canal.
The driver allowed the Dodge to run off the road and onto the dirt shoulder.
The driver over-corrected and made an unsafe turning movement, which caused the pickup to roll over.
The driver suffered major head injuries as the Dodge was rolling. Those injuries proved fatal.
Marquez, who was seated in the right front seat, exited the Dodge and walked into Niland to seek medical attention.
A California Highway Patrol news release stated the incident remains under investigation.
