One killed, one in­jured in ve­hi­cle col­li­sion

Two men, one of whom died, were in­jured af­ter be­ing in­volved a sin­gle-ve­hi­cle col­li­sion Tues­day night near Beal Road, Cal­i­for­nia High­way Pa­trol an­nounced.

The name of the de­ceased man, a 62-year-old San Diego res­i­dent who was driv­ing has yet to be re­leased pend­ing no­ti­fi­ca­tion of next of kin, ICSO coro­ner deputy W.B. Cald­well said Thurs­day.

The pas­sen­ger, Felipe Je­sus Mar­quez, 28, of Ni­land, re­port­edly sus­tained ma­jor in­juries, in­clud­ing cuts to his face and hands.

The col­li­sion oc­curred about 11:20 p.m., when the two men were trav­el­ing in a 1997 Dodge Ram 2500 west­bound on Beal, west of the High­land Canal.

The driver al­lowed the Dodge to run off the road and onto the dirt shoul­der.

The driver over-cor­rected and made an un­safe turn­ing move­ment, which caused the pickup to roll over.

The driver suf­fered ma­jor head in­juries as the Dodge was rolling. Those in­juries proved fa­tal.

Mar­quez, who was seated in the right front seat, ex­ited the Dodge and walked into Ni­land to seek med­i­cal at­ten­tion.

A Cal­i­for­nia High­way Pa­trol news re­lease stated the in­ci­dent re­mains un­der in­ves­ti­ga­tion.
