Dynamo El Centro 2006 team wins Presidio Cup
This past weekend the Dynamo El Centro club 2006 (referring to birth year) girls’ soccer team participated in the Presidio Cup tournament in Mira Mesa.
The tournament followed the familiar format of pool play (three games) and an elimination round — in this case just a single championship game.
In the club’s first game, played on Saturday morning, the girls took on the San Marcos Revolution. They won 2-0, thanks to two goals from Arely Ortega.
Playing their second game later in the afternoon, the Dynamo proceeded to beat AYSO Matrix Bonita 1-0, with the decider coming on a penalty kick from Brianna Davalos.
This gave the team a 2-0 record heading into Sunday, when they were set to play Intra FC in their final pool game. They won that game as well, 2-0, with both goals coming from Emma Islas — giving them a spot in the tournament final as the top seed.
The championship game turned out to be a rematch with the San Marcos Revolution. The Dynamo squad was able to overcome a slow start to take the game 2-0 with a goal from Davalos and a penalty kick from Camila Munguia, winning them the cup
Key to the Dynamo’s weekend success was goalie Amber Miranda. She had shutouts in all four games, and made some great one-on-one saves, per head coach Efren Coronel.
Overall Coronel and his staff are pleased with the weekend’s efforts, saying, “The girls continue to impress the coaching staff with their ability to learn and implement knew skills. They work really well with each other as a team. This is the girls third year together and (they) have accomplished a lot.”
The next big date on the Dynamo 2006 calendar is the State Cup, coming in February 2019.
