Border Patrol thwarts smuggling attempt
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents on Monday night arrested a 30-year-old Mexican national attempting to smuggle 10 undocumented immigrants in a Jeep Cherokee.
The arrest occurred approximately 11:15 p.m. Monday while agents were working near the area of Mount Signal Road and Highway 98.
Agents observed a Jeep without lights traveling northbound on Mount Signal Road.
Agents responded to the area and attempted to stop the vehicle as it traveled eastbound on Highway 98.
The Jeep failed to yield and attempted to evade agents.
Agents pursued the Jeep and were quickly and safely able to end the pursuit using a controlled tire deflation device.
The driver and all occupants were immediately taken into custody.
The subjects were transported to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further investigation and processing, a CBP news release stated.
