Armed men arrested

Two men were arrested by state police officers for alleged possession of firearms, the state Department of Public Safety said Thursday.

The agency said the suspects have been identified as Aispuro “Doe,” 26 and Arturo “Doe,” 25.

The individuals were apprehended at Ejido Mérida.

Police agents observed the suspects in a Honda vehicle traveling at excess speed at State Highway 8 and First Street.

The agents stopped the men, and after searching their belongings, the officers reportedly found a 9mm handgun in the possession of one suspect and a .40-caliber handgun on the person of the other. Both guns were loaded.

Police agents said they found inside the vehicle another .40-caliber pistol as well as a .22-caliber rifle.

According to the agency, the suspects are presumably linked to the Sinaloa cartel.

The men were turned over to a prosecuting agency.
