Imperial boys notch back-to-back blowouts

-

After closing out their run at the Tiger Classic last Saturday with a 71-54 win over the Coronado Islanders, the Imperial boys’ basketball team has kept the good times rolling this week, winning twice more to extend their streak to three and nudge their overall record above .500 for the first time this season at 5-4.

On Monday, they had a game against Chula Vista High in Chula Vista.

The game was tight for three quarters — with Imperial leading 13-12 after one, expanding their advantage to five after two, and eight after three — before the Tigers blew the doors off in the fourth outscoring the Spartans 29-5 for a 77-45 win.

Imperial was at their ball-moving best, utilizing a balanced attack to undo Chula Vista. Four players — Tony Moreno (15), Jordan Reed (13), Patrick Bush (12) and Julio Chavez (11) — finished in double figures.

Bush, along with Chavez, Robert Quintero and Sonny Escalante, kept the Tigers in it early before Moreno broke out with 13 second-half points.

The Tigers followed this win up with a win over the Kofa Kings in Yuma on Wednesday.

They won that one 70-43.

Reversing the flow of the Chula Vista game, the Tigers started off fast against the Kings, leading 26-10 after the first quarter and rolling from there, adding three to four points per frame.

Next up for Imperial is a rematch with Coronado, at Coronado, tonight at 7 p.m.
