The Imperial County Area Agency on Aging is hosting its 14th annual Senior Appreciation Day on Jan. 31 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Imperial Valley Expo Casa de Mañana Building.

This event is free to seniors and their caregivers. There will be food, activities and door prizes. Pure Inspiration and Ballet Folklorico Las Florecitas will provide live entertainment.

Rosie Blankenship, Area Agency on Aging director, encouraged older adults and their caregivers to participate. “You won’t want to miss the announcement of the Senior Volunteer of the Year,” she said. “Every year we recognize a senior in the community that honorably dedicates their time and energy serving older adults in our community.”

The event is expecting to host more than 800 seniors and caregivers this year.

Participation in the annual Senior Appreciation Day informs seniors, caregivers and their families of the services and resources available to older adults in the county. The Imperial County Area Agency on Aging provides the following services to seniors 60 years of age and older: congregate meals and home-delivered meals, in-home respite care, legal assistance, information and assistance, long-term care ombudsman, nutrition education, senior health clinics, transportation, and Alzheimer’s education and training.

During the Senior Appreciation event, a needs assessment survey will be conducted for the adult and aging populations. Survey results will be included in the 2020-2024 Area Plan that guides how services are offered in Imperial County to people 60 years of age and older, dependent adults and their caregivers.

Agencies providing senior services in Imperial County are encouraged to participate in the 14th annual Senior Appreciation event. For further information, please contact the Imperial County Public Administrator/Area Agency on Aging at (442) 265-7033.
