Commission criticizes National Guard proposal
The State Human Rights Commission, along with colleagues from other states, criticized legislation approved by Congress that will create a Mexican National Guard.
In a press release, the Mexican Federation of Public Entities of Human Rights called upon lawmakers to include proposals made by the agencies in the bill.
Unlike the U.S. National Guard, the Mexican version would be used to attack crime with military personnel.
Groups that made proposals include the National Human Rights Commission, the United Nations, teachers and others.
Congressmen voted Wednesday in favor of the bill, which will leave the National Guard under military control.
