Officer involved shooting reported
A Mexicali police officer shot a suspect who had allegedly attacked him with a knife, according to authorities.
The incident was reported at 3 p.m. Thursday in an abandoned home located at Fraccionamiento Angeles de Puebla neighborhood in southeast Mexicali.
The police said a robbery was reported in an Oxxo convenience store located in the area.
Police agents arrived at the scene and were notified by store employees the suspects entered the business with a pair of machetes to demand cash.
The suspects fled on a bicycle and apparently attempted to hide from authorities in the abandoned home.
An officer saw one of the suspects and entered the residence in pursuit, at which point he was punched in the face by one of the suspects.
The other suspect allegedly stabbed the officer several times in the leg.
The agent then shot the assaulting suspect in the left leg.
The injured suspect was identified as Iran Ezequiel “Doe,” 23, and the other individual was identified as José Ignacio “Doe,” 25. Both were apprehended at the scene.
The officer was transported to the General Hospital, then to private hospital Arce Quiñones and eventually to a clinic of the Mexican Institute of Social Security.
Police officers were unable to find the 1,400 pesos, or $75, stolen during the robbery.
