Hundreds attend ECRMC Baby and Children’s Expo
EL CENTRO — More than 50 local agencies partnered with El Centro Regional Medical Center on Saturday to participate in the Ninth Annual Baby and Children’s Expo at Imperial Valley Mall.
Exhibitors representing everything from health care, nutrition, lactation, CPR and asthma education were on hand. The event also offered free health screenings for diabetes, asthma, and vision, and well as hands-on demonstrations.
“Today we are encouraging families to come out and see what the community offers,” said Dr. Adolphe Edward, chief executive officer of ECRMC. “We will be having educational classes and talking about our services like private rooms and tender moments for future mommies,” he said.
Several hundred were in attendance at the event, which took place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Among the exhibitors on hand was eye-care provider Optom-Eyes, which was offering a free eye-to-brain coordination test. Optician Hector Manriquez explained that the test, which was taken on a tablet, monitors your eye movement and gives you an accurate percentage on how your brain reacts to the movements.
Shortly before noon, Sullen Encinas, a registered nurse with ECRMC, provided a live demonstration of hands-on CPR. With early detection and compressions, chances of resuscitation increase, she said.
Edward expressed how it is important for people to take advantage of these free services offered to them. “You get to learn a lot of things (at the expo) that you may not know about. It’s here in the community and it can help them through a new family,” he said.
