Winging it at the Carrot Festival
Festivities for the 2019 Carrot Festival and Street Fair came to a close Sunday with the event’s first-ever Wing and Carrot Cook-Off. Four teams competed for the chance to win prizes of $750, $500 and $250 for the best wings or $250 for a side dish that included carrots as an ingredient.
Eric Cox, participating as Biggen BBQ, took first place, followed by Verde 4-H in second and Justin Buschelia in third. Verde 4-H also took honors for side dish.
Eric Cox, competing as Biggen BBQ, took the $750 grand prize the 2019 Carrot Festival’s first Wing and Carrot Cook-Off. Cox said he plans to donate the prize money to the Dogwood 4-H Club, of which his daughter is member.

In addition to serving prize-winning wings at Sunday’s Wing and Carrot Cook-Off in Holtville, Justin Buschelia’s “Just Wingin It” booth prepared deepfried carrots in the event’s side dish competition.
