Wing­ing it at the Car­rot Fes­ti­val

Fes­tiv­i­ties for the 2019 Car­rot Fes­ti­val and Street Fair came to a close Sun­day with the event’s first-ever Wing and Car­rot Cook-Off. Four teams com­peted for the chance to win prizes of $750, $500 and $250 for the best wings or $250 for a side dish that in­cluded car­rots as an in­gre­di­ent.

Eric Cox, par­tic­i­pat­ing as Biggen BBQ, took first place, fol­lowed by Verde 4-H in se­cond and Justin Busche­lia in third. Verde 4-H also took hon­ors for side dish.


Eric Cox, com­pet­ing as Biggen BBQ, took the $750 grand prize the 2019 Car­rot Fes­ti­val’s first Wing and Car­rot Cook-Off. Cox said he plans to do­nate the prize money to the Dog­wood 4-H Club, of which his daugh­ter is mem­ber.

In ad­di­tion to serv­ing prize-win­ning wings at Sun­day’s Wing and Car­rot Cook-Off in Holtville, Justin Busche­lia’s “Just Win­gin It” booth pre­pared deep­fried car­rots in the event’s side dish com­pe­ti­tion.
