IID welcomes new Energy Department manager

IMPERIAL — Imperial Irrigation District announced Wednesday that it has hired Marilyn del Bosque Gilbert as its new Energy Department manager.

Her first day on the job was May 13. As department manager, Bosque Gilbert plans and directs the essential functions of the department. Duties include overseeing administra­tion, regulatory policy, operations and energy infrastruc­ture, resource planning, system and trading operations and generation to meet the district’s strategic plan and the department’s goals and objectives.

“Several initiative­s at the local, state and internatio­nal levels are on critical paths,” IID said in a release, “and Ms. Bosque Gilbert, by virtue of her skill set and standing in the energy industry, is tasked with guiding them to successful outcomes on IID’s behalf.”

“With California setting the ambitious goal of 100 percent zero carbon resources, the proposed expansion of the California Independen­t System Operator into adjoining states and the future of IID’s continued electrical services in the Coachella Valley, the district faces many opportunit­ies but also challenges,” said Henry Martinez, IID general manager.

“I have tasked Marilyn with positionin­g the district to preserve our public power business model and ensure our historical­ly low rates while meeting the demands and expectatio­ns of a balancing authority area in an evolving energy landscape.”

Ms. Bosque Gilbert’s career in the energy industry spans over 20 years and includes serving the as director of operations services for the massive Long Island Power Authority (1.1 million customers and $3.5 billion annual budget). She also served for 14 years with the Brownsvill­e Texas Public Utilities Board as director of energy services, energy risk manager and key account manager. Her experience also includes serving as energy manager of the Brownsvill­e Independen­t School District.

As a graduate engineer, she inspected water, wastewater, and storm sewer, paving, and treatment plant expansion projects.

She earned a master’s degree in business administra­tion and a bachelor’s in architectu­ral engineerin­g from the University of Texas.
