BORSTAR rescues migrants in desert
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents on Sunday rescued two suspected illegal aliens in the desert west of Calexico, a Customs and Border Protection news release stated.
The rescued men were only identified as a 21-year-old and 15-yearold, both Mexican nationals.
The incident occurred around 12:10 p.m., when Border Patrol Search, Trauma and Rescue team made contact with two abandoned migrants in the Yuha Desert approximately 29 miles west of the Calexico west port of entry.
On Saturday, the government of Mexico received a 911 emergency call reporting two males lost in the desert.
The Mexican governments contacted El Centro Sector Border Patrol Foreign Operations Branch and provided global positioning satellite coordinates pertaining to the distress call.
FOB was advised that a Mexican military helicopter and Grupo BETA had searched and were continuing to comb the Yuha Desert on the Mexican side of the border. At this point, BORSTAR was activated to search the Yuha Desert on the U.S. side of the border.
On Sunday, when temperatures reached 115 degrees Fahrenheit, the BORSTAR agents hiked the rugged terrain not accessible by vehicle. BORSTAR searched for several hours carrying medical bags and rescue equipment in search of the two men.
At approximately 12:10 p.m., BORSTAR found the two men under the shade of desert shrubs suffering from severe dehydration. Both men were treated in the field with intravenous saline bags administered by the team.
GPS coordinates were then relayed to an air ambulance for extraction of the victims. BORSTAR turned over the individuals to an air ambulance for further medical treatment.
