Man with gun asks for ride

A man wielding a black handgun, which he never brandished, came up to a driver near Fifth Street on Wednesday night and asked for a ride to Holtville.

The driver declined, and the man fled southbound on Fifth. After she left the scene, the driver reported the man to 911 just after 8 p.m.

The driver told police that when she saw the handgun, the man put it behind his back while still holding onto it. The driver also told police that the man never brandished the gun at her.

Police were unable to find the man upon their arrival. The man was described as a white adult male in his mid- to late-20s who stood about 5 feet, 7 inches and wore a white shirt and khaki shorts.
