IVC appoints interim communications chief
IMPERIAL — Imperial Valley College announced Wednesday that it has appointed Elizabeth Espinoza as interim public information officer and advertising director.
Espinoza most recently worked at Naval Air Facility El Centro, where she served as a marketing assistant for the 2019 Blue Angels Air Show.
She is a 2014 alumna of Imperial Valley College and 2016 graduate of San Diego State University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in political science. While at SDSU, she also studied abroad for a time at Oxford University in England.
Espinoza continued her education at SDSU to earn a Master of Science in homeland security. Her graduate studies included a summer abroad at China’s Xiamen University.
She also has experience as an intelligence analyst and as a disaster duty officer with the American Red Cross.
Espinoza’s appointment reflects a decision by IVC’s board of directors in January to move its marketing and public relations in house. The college had contracted part-time for more than 20 years with El Centro-based Reliance Public Relations for those services.
“Really, it’s a medium-sized college and it needs to have a full-time, public relations on-campus program,” William Gay, founder of Reliance, said at the time. “I’m really glad that it’s finally happening.”
Reliance temporarily will continue to serve IVC in an advisory capacity, Gay said Thursday.
