Lawmaker requests strengthening of domestic violence programs

-

A state lawmaker introduced a bill that seeks to strengthen domestic violence programs.

Assemblyman David Ruvalcaba, of the Institutional Revolutionary Party, proposed reforms to the Domestic Violence Law and the Budget Law.

The lawmaker said the most serious human rights violations occur at home.

The Domestic Violence Law was approved in 2003 to address the issue and protect families from physical, psychological, sexual and economic violence.

“Such measures are not working and are not accomplishing their goals, as statistics show,” the lawmaker said.

As of August, the state reported 822 domestic violence cases, according to the National Public Safety System.

Prevention is a priority task for government, the lawmaker added.
