City seeks to curb plastics use
City officials launched Wednesday a campaign that seeks to reduce businesses’ use of plastics.
City Director of Environmental Protection Luis Flores said the campaign looks to reduce use of plastic items such as bags and straws while motivating eateries to stop providing these items.
Flores said these measures seek to bring awareness among residents and promote reuse of plastic items and reduce the environmental impact these products cause.
Flores recalled city ordinances include fines and even closing businesses that violate regulations starting July 5, 2020.
Mexicali City Councilman Héctor Ibarra recalled an ordinance approved in March instructed the agency to launch programs focused on reducing indiscriminate use of plastic items.
