Catholic Diocese suspends mass, events
The Diocese of Mexicali announced the cancellation of its Sunday masses starting March 29.
In a document posted on social media Mexicali Bishop José Isidro Guerrero said the measures have been adopted in agreement with the guidelines established by the health authority and the Conference of the Mexican Episcopate.
On Sunday there will be masses at which priests will explain to their faithful “the true and necessary reasons for this issue.”
During the week, masses will be held privately in parishes, shrines and chapels if laity can maintain social distancing rules.
The same case applies to personal and community prayer.
“The Blessed Sacrament could be exposed for prayer and adoration, if agglomeration does not grow in the Chapels of Perpetual Adoration,” the diocese said.
The diocese also announced the cancelation of meetings of large groups such as retreats, assemblies, congresses, conferences and catechism classes, while baptisms, Quinceañera masses, weddings and funerals must be administered privately and only with the closest relatives.
The ills will also get services while hygiene measures are observed.
The Eucharist will be broadcast live Sundays from the cathedral at 7 p.m. and will be broadcast on the Dimetv platform and the diocese’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
In the event that the health alert continues Easter services will be held privately.
For now, parish offices will continue to be open at regular hours.
