Taxpayers impacted by COVID-19 may be eligible to have penalties forgiven on late property tax payments.
Imperial County Treasurer- Tax Collector, Karen Vogel announced Monday that property owners directly impacted by COVID-19 who are unable to pay their second installment of their 2019 Property Tax should contact the Tax Collector’s Office to request a Waiver of Penalty form.
Each waiver request will require documentation on how the taxpayer was impacted by the virus that interfered with their ability to deliver payment by the May 1 deadline.
All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and will be approved as allowed by law.
The Treasurer-Tax Collector’s office is currently closed to the public; however, essential staff is working to answer phone calls, respond to emails and process payments.
Cash payments will not be accepted at this time, property owners are encouraged to obtain a cashier’s check or money order and submit their payment by mail. A walkup payment box is located at the front entrance and a drive-up payment box is located in the west parking lot of the County Administration Center located at 940 W. Main St.
