Border Patrol seizes meth
El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents seized methamphetamine in two separate events over the weekend.
The first incident occurred Friday at 2 p.m., when a man driving an Acura Integra with a female passenger approached the Highway 86 checkpoint near Salton City for inspection.
A Border Patrol canine detection team alerted to the vehicle, which was sent to secondary inspection for further investigation.
Agents discovered a black and gray backpack on the rear seat of the vehicle with seven wrapped packages inside. The substance inside the packages tested positive for the characteristics of methamphetamine. Agents also found a small amount of personal use marijuana on the driver.
The total weight of the methamphetamine was 6.4 pounds with an estimated street value of $12,160.
The man and woman, who are both adult U.S. citizens; the drugs, and the vehicle were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further processing.
The second incident occurred Sunday at 12:30 p.m., when an agent was patrolling the International Border Fence approximately three miles east of the downtown Calexico port of entry and discovered a cellophane-wrapped package about 15 yards north of the border fence.
The agent seized and transported the package to the Calexico Border Patrol Station for further processing.
At the station, the contents tested positive for methamphetamine, with a weight of 457.6 grams and an estimated street value of $1,900.
The package was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
