Cattle Call week being planned with contingencies

-

As current COVID-19 restrictions may prevent the annual Cattle Call Rodeo and its festivities from taking place in their usual form, the Brawley Chamber of Commerce announced that it will be creating contingency plans for this year’s rodeo events.

This update was provided via a video posted July 22 on the chamber’s Facebook page.

In the video, Chief Executive Officer Kate Luna explained that the chamber, in creating these events, will act in the interest of safety and social responsibility above all else.

“Our direction will

largely be based on the current COVID situation in our county,” Luna said. “And, realistically, this means that we may have some events virtually. Or, if things improve, it may mean we can do a hybrid of events outside.

“But at this point in time, it’s still too early to make early decisions,” she continued. “So please know that, as things change, we will be adapting our plans to what’s going on around us locally.”

The rodeo and its events traditionally take place the week of Nov. 11. The chamber is currently accepting submissions for themes for the 2020 Cattle Call on its website, www.brawleychamber. com.

Similarly, the Brawley Cattle Call Queen Royalty Association on Friday provided an update on when the Cattle Call Queen coronation will take place.

“Should the current restrictions not be lifted before Oct. 1, we will be prepared to livestream the competition so we can see these young ladies fulfill their dreams,” the association stated on its Facebook page. “We will also re-schedule the coronation banquet once the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.”
