Two displaced in fire

-

Two residents were displaced after a second-alarm vegetation fire occurred Wednesday afternoon in the area of West Evan Hewes Highway and Foxglove Road, county scanner traffic stated.

This area is in Dixieland, just west of Seeley.

It was initially reported that palm trees in the area had caught fire. The fire spread to less than an acre of brush.

This brush was just adjacent to a double-wide trailer in the 1900 block of Foxglove, where the two displaced residents lived.

While the trailer did not catch on fire, heavy smoke from the fire did enter the residence, which force them out.

The fire was first reported to 911 at 2:40 p.m., county Sheriff’s Office activity logs stated.

Imperial County Fire Department Battalion Chief Juan Rodelo immediately called for second-alarm assistance at 2:46 p.m.

The two residents were able to evacuate the home, but an argument ensued between them and fire personnel, as they kept trying to go back into the home to save their small dog.

The residents were advised several times not to re-enter the residence. The dog was eventually rescued.

One resident was treated on scene for minor chest pains. No other injuries were reported.

Imperial Irrigation District representatives shut off power to the trailer as firefighters battled the fire.

The second-alarm request prompted assistance from ICFD, Centinela State Prison and NAF El Centro fire departments.

The American Red Cross was requested to assist with the two displaced adult residents and their dog, as well as to provide canteen service to the approximately 30 fire personnel on scene.

Once the fire was controlled, firefighters dressed down from their structure gear to wildland gear.

They continued mop-up operations until they cleared from the scene at 6:30 p.m.
