Kidnapping thwarted
State police officers were able to arrest a man who allegedly kidnapped a teenage migrant over the weekend.
The State Attorney General’s Office said on Sunday staff of the Specialized Unit to Combat Kidnapping received a report about the abduction of an 18-year-old who had arrived in Mexicali with the intention of crossing to the United States.
The state Attorney General’s Office reported the kidnappers demanded $90,000 from the victim’s family, who live in the state of Guanajuato.
Although the family made a down payment, captors maintained their demands and threatened more harm to the young man if they were not given more money.
The family agreed to pay them with a recent model motor vehicle in Guadalajara, Jalisco.
Provided this information, officers with the State Security and Investigation Guard of the Specialized Unit against Kidnapping conducted a search near the Airport Highway.
Armando Iván “N,” 43, originally from Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, was arrested there. He was in charge of taking care of the kidnapped youth.
The detainee allegedly was permanently guarding the victim to prevent his escape.
The prosecution agency explained the detainee intended to travel with the kidnapped teenager to Guadalajara with the intent of collecting the ransom.
The arrest led to the identification of the kidnapping’s leader, who turned out to be a person close to the victim’s family.
The motive behind the kidnapping turned out to be a debt owed by a family member.
