Murder victim ID’d
Brawley Police Department has identified the fatal victim in a shooting incident that also injured another man early Sunday morning.
Brawley resident Josue Lopez, 26, was declared dead at Pioneers Memorial Hospital sometime after 1 a.m., following a report of multiple gunshots in the area of 1100 Leonard St.
Lopez’s identity was confirmed by BPD Detective Sgt. Jesse Rotner.
Lopez and the other victim, also a 26-year-old Brawley resident, turned up at PMH for care while police were responding to the crime scene.
The second victim, who has not been identified, was flown to a regional trauma center where he remains under care. He is expected is survive, Rotner said.
Police believe the shootings to be gang related. BPD Investigation Division is investigating the incident as a murder and attempted murder. Additional circumstances of the shooting have not been disclosed, pending further investigation.
