Temporary facility under construction at ECRMC
EL CENTRO — El Centro Regional Medical Center announced Friday that state assistance arrived to set up a 50-bed temporary facility.
The hospital said the expansion facility will be strategically located adjacent to the hospital on the north side of the campus.
The facility will be ready and activated within two weeks, ECRMC said. The state will be mobilizing the equipment needed and will deploy teams of health care professionals needed for the temporary site. The hospital said the temporary site’s primary mission will be to care for the non-COVID patients who need in-patient care.
“We want to assure everyone that we are ready and prepared to take care of our community,” said Dr. Adolphe Edward, chief executive officer at ECRMC. “This action, and the continued effort to work jointly with the state and county health officials will allow us to respond quickly to the needs of our patients and the medical care that is needed in the region.”
As of Friday evening, there were 599 active COVID cases reported for Imperial County. Of those, 53 patients were hospitalized. Infection rates have been creeping up since mid-September. One Sept. 14, there were 20 hospitalized COVID patients reported in the county.
ECRMC said it continues to collaborate closely with Imperial County Public Health Department and local officials to ensure the community is kept informed on the status of COVID-19 locally.
