Gary Redfern rejoins IVP staff
EL CENTRO — A familiar face is rejoining the Imperial Valley Press news team.
Veteran journalist Gary Redfern is returning to the IVP newsroom for the first time in 24 years. He’ll be joining the news staff on a part-time basis beginning Tuesday.
Redfern, 60, brings a wealth of journalism experience in his return to the paper. In his previously stint with IVP, from
1988 to 1997, he served as a senior reporter, covering a variety of subjects, including local government and crime. More recently, prior to the pandemic, he served as editor of both the Calexico Chronicle/Imperial Valley Weekly and the Holtville Tribune.
In between, Redfern has worked in marketing and public relations, first with Spectrum Advertising from 1997-2000, and later with his own firms, Dynamic Amusements and Dynamic Consulting.
Redfern holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Milwaukee-Wisconsin and a master’s in journalism from the prestigious Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill.
“We’re delighted to have Gary back at the Press,” said Editor-in-Chief Tom Bodus. “Talented journalists don’t grow on trees, in Gary Redfern, we’re getting one of the very best the Imperial Valley has to offer.”
“I am pleased to be working for the Imperial Valley Press again,” Redfern said. “It is a newspaper with a great tradition that remains a vital part of the Imperial Valley community.”
