CALEXICO – Girls and boys dressed as their favorite cartoon characters celebrated Día del Niño (Day of the Child) at Camarena Memorial Library on Thursday.

“We invited the community to the smartest place on Earth, which is the library,” said Lizeth Legaspi, library manager. “It is a Latin celebration to commemorate our children and promote literacy.”

The family event included activities such as book readings and giveaways, refreshments, and outdoor activities.

For parents, this also represented a return to normalcy following the pandemic, and for children, it served as a reminder they are important and appreciated.

“We celebrate their youth and highlight our love for our children,” said Karen Alvarez, local resident.
