Drug suspects handed over to feds
Two juveniles were passengers in a vehicle found to be transporting drugs during a traffic stop Thursday morning on Highway 111, south of Heber Road, El Centro Police dispatcher’s logs state.
Arrested on suspicion of possessing a dangerous drug for sales were Dayana Jimenez, 35, and Hector Castillo, 30. The case was turned over to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, which typically is only contacted for major drug seizures.
There was no record of either suspect being booked into the county jail, a jail clerk said Friday.
According to the logs, the vehicle was stopped by an El Centro officer on the highway about 4 p.m. and the driver gave consent for a search during which drugs were found with the aid of a trained dog.
Information on the type and amount of drugs, and the type of vehicle, was not immediately available from police officials. It also was not reported why a city officer made a traffic stop outside city limits where the Sheriff ’s Office typically has jurisdiction.
The arrests were made by El Centro Police, Sheriff ’s Sgt. Murad Masad said Friday.
The juveniles, whose ages and genders were not released, were turned over to the custody of a family member.
