Lawmaker demands power transfer to San Felipe
A state lawmaker has introduced a resolution that would require Mexicali to transfer all relevant official reports and documents to the recently created municipality of San Felipe.
Assemblyman Juan Manuel Molina’s resolution proposal was approved by his colleagues.
The legislator said state law seeks to ensure outgoing elected officials provide the reports and documentation during leadership transfers that incoming officials will need at the beginning of their terms.
In July 2021, the state enacted a decree that to create the municipality of San Felipe, whose territory previously was part of Mexicali. The city’s elected officials were sworn in in January.
According to Molina, although the San Felipe administration began excellently, as of this week Mexicali has failed to turn over information that would aid in the new city’s administration.
