Mexicali fighter gets silver in Dominican Republic

Mexicali fighter Leslie Soltero won the silver medal in the Pan American Taekwondo Championship held this week in Dominican Republic.

Milena Titoneli, of Brazil, defeated Soltero 7-10 and 7-11 in the finals.

The local fighter got 24 points in the World Taekwondo rankings.

Soltero first defeated Claudia Gallardo, of Chile.

In the semifinals, Soltero defeated Melissa Pagnotta, of Canada.

Anel Félix, another Mexicali Taekwondo fighter, lost in the quarterfinals.

Soltero and Félix, as well as Daniela Souza, of Tijuana, plan to compete in the Dominican Open.
