Migrant rescued in mountain area

U.S. Border Patrol agents from El Centro Sector reportedly rescued an undocument­ed migrant in the Jacumba Wilderness region early Saturday morning.

According a U.S. Customs and

Border Protection release, El Centro Sector Communicat­ions notified El Centro station about 2:08 a.m. of a report from the California Highway Patrol regarding a person in distress. The report stated the individual was dehydrated and could not walk to Interstate 8.

Agents responded to the last known GPS coordinate­s provided. The found the individual about 3:08 a.m. six miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border.

After providing water to the individual and conducting a wellness check, agents determined no medical assistance was needed. They also verified the individual did not possess the required documents to be legally present in the United States.

The individual was taken into custody and transporte­d to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for follow-up, the release said.
