Calexico teachers announce tentative contract agreement

- BY ELIZABETH MAYORAL CORPUS Staff Writer

CALEXICO — Associated Calexico Teachers and the Calexico Unified School District have reached a tentative contract agreement Wednesday morning about 2:15 a.m.

ACT announced the news on its social media accounts.

ACT members have been working without a contract for more than two years and according to the union, haven’t received a raise from the district for the last five years.

On Feb. 9, CUSD announced an offer of a 20.5 percent salary schedule increase. On May 3, they announced a new proposal with a 25 percent salary schedule increase.

In-depth details on the agreement haven’t been shared publicly as of press time. The announcement comes with ACT being legally one step away from going on strike, according to a union’s recent meeting.

If the tentative agreement is accepted, this will end months of contentious negotiations between the parties.
