Details of CUSD labor agreement released
CALEXICO – Terms of the tentative labor contract reached Wednesday between Calexico Unified School District and the Associated Calexico School Teachers continue are beginning to come to light.
Highlights of the package include salary increases and one-time payments, medical benefits, and additional information. Some of the details were shared in a press release by CUSD on
Thursday.
In terms of salary increases and one- time payments, according to the release, during 20202021, there is a 5 percent ongoing salary schedule increase, effective on July 1, 2020. For 2021
2022, a 3.5 percent ongoing salary schedule increase, effective on July 1, 2021, and for 2022-2023 a 17 percent ongoing salary schedule increase, effective on July 1, 2022.
Based on years of service, one-time and off-schedule payments will range between $2,000 and $20,000 for eligible employees. Off-schedule payments for eligible certificated retirees are available from 2019-2020 through 2022- 2023 school years.
The district will transition to Self-Insured Schools of California ( SISC) effective July 1 while maintaining current Anthem Blue Cross benefits. Multiple plan options for employees and their dependents will be available, effective on July 1, 2023.
On medical benefits, CUSD’s maximum contribution will be limited; the release added it will remain the highest overall in the Imperial County.
For the 2022-2023 school year, unit members will not contribute to medical benefit premiums and the district will pay full premium costs for this plan year.
Beginning with the plan year of 2023, CUSD’s contribution to medical benefits will be limited as follows: $10,000 for only employees, $17,500 for employees plus one, and $21,500 for family.
Increased compensation for overage coverage, effective July 1; a one-year MOU regarding faculty meetings; an increase for stipend positions, and a fiveyear evaluation cycle option for eligible employees are among additional highlights on the tentative agreement shared by the district.
CUSD and ACT finalized the tentative agreement after a full fact- finding and negotiations beginning May 10. The release read that this resolves six years of unfinished bargaining and there will be no negotiations next year.
After the ratification of the tentative agreement by ACT, the district team recommends the approval to the board of trustees during its regular meeting scheduled for May 26.
