Agents intercept group of 21 migrants near Andrade POE

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector apprehende­d 21 persons Wednesday afternoon after they made an illegal border crossing about five miles west of the Andrade port of entry, according to a U.S. Custom and Border Protection release.

The release said the Yuma, Ariz., Border Patrol station notified Calexico agents of the crossing about 4:53 p.m. Calexico agents intercepte­d the group and transporte­d them to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for follow up.

The total group consisted of 18 men and three women, ranging in age from 18-47.

A 34-year-old Mexican national traveling with the group proved to be a member of the Sureños street gang, record checks revealed. He will face federal charges and will remain in federal custody until his arraignmen­t, the release said.

The rest of the migrants were processed for removal from the United States.
