Agents intercept group of 21 migrants near Andrade POE
U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Centro Sector apprehended 21 persons Wednesday afternoon after they made an illegal border crossing about five miles west of the Andrade port of entry, according to a U.S. Custom and Border Protection release.
The release said the Yuma, Ariz., Border Patrol station notified Calexico agents of the crossing about 4:53 p.m. Calexico agents intercepted the group and transported them to the El Centro Sector Processing Center for follow up.
The total group consisted of 18 men and three women, ranging in age from 18-47.
A 34-year-old Mexican national traveling with the group proved to be a member of the Sureños street gang, record checks revealed. He will face federal charges and will remain in federal custody until his arraignment, the release said.
The rest of the migrants were processed for removal from the United States.
