IVC welcomes new risk, security and safety manager to the Campus Safety Team
Former Imperial County Deputy Sheriff Sergeant Edgar Quiñones has become Imperial Valley College’s risk, security and safety manager.
Quiñones, who began his new position Jan. 3, is a graduate of Imperial High School and attended IVC for one semester before joining the Army in 1996. After serving three years on active duty, he attended a technical trade school where he obtained his associate degree of applied sciences in medical studies. Quiñones began his work as a medical assistant with Scripps Memorial
Hospital in La Jolla before moving on to the UCSD Medical Center in La Jolla.
He managed two of UCSD’S outpatient clinics, the Department of Neurological Surgery and the Pain and Palliative Medicine Department.
In June 2006, Quiñones and his family returned to Imperial and he began a transition into law enforcement.
He started his new career with the Imperial County Probations Department as a Juvenile Hall correctional officer until he was offered a position with the medical records division at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, Centinela State Prison. He then became the records division supervisor there.
Quiñones became a deputy with the Imperial County Sheriff ’s Office in
August 2008. He worked patrol and served in many capacities, including field training officer, deputy mentor, honor guard member, CPR instructor, and criminal investigator before promoting to the rank of sergeant in March 2016.
As a sergeant, he managed the ICSO Deputy Reserve Program, Recruitment Team, and was a part of the ICSO Mobile Field Force and Honor Guard.
He was the motivating force behind ICSO’s relay team and led them in consecutive years to the top three team in 2021 and 2022 for the Imperial Valley Law Enforcement Relay Race. He continues to be active in the community and serves as a committee member for the Imperial Valley 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb.
