Sure Helpline celebrates Self-Love for Valentine’s Day
CALIPATRIA – Sure Helpline Crisis Center emphasized the action of taking care of oneself through their Valentine’s Self-Care Party on Tuesday, February 14, at their location in Calipatria.
Sure Helpline Crisis Center Executive Director Margaret Sauza said it’s important to recognize selflove as a starting point to love others.
“We have to love and take care of ourselves to give back to the community. We can’t give what we don’t have,” Sauza said. “On this Valentine’s Day it’s important to support ourselves and each other because through unity we can be strong.”
With snacks and beverages, those gathered chatted with members from the Sure Helpline Crisis Center, a nonprofit that empowers individuals and families to build a community free from sexual abuse and domestic violence, per their social media.
“Sometimes we take care of our family, kids, homework, and everything else that we need to do
... we take care of people at work but we are the last ones to care of ourselves,” Adelaida Ibarra, Lead Advocate at the Calipatria Satellite Office of Sure Helpline Crisis Center, said.
Ibarra said that self-care is not just about appearance, it’s taking care of personal emotions and pursuing activities.
“If you enjoy going to the church or you have a religious activity, it doesn’t matter your religion, that is also self-care,” Ibarra said. “(Self-care is) doing something that you like for yourself.”
She said that Sure Helpline Crisis Center is available for the community to provide guidance and talks.
“It doesn’t matter your situation or what you are struggling with, the doors are open for everyone,” Ibarra said.
