California Mid-Winter Fair set to debut new rollercoaster in Imperial
IMPERIAL – Helm and Sons Amusements are debuting a brand new rollercoaster, the PLUR, during the 2023 California Mid-Winter Fair.
Fitting perfectly into this year’s fair theme, “Find Your Groove,” the PLUR stands for “Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect” and is painted in greens and purples that are reminiscent of the 1960s.
Helm and Sons Marketing Manager Stevie Dub and Helm and Sons Marketing Coordinator Chris Gonzalez gave an interview on Saturday, February 25, teasing the debut of the coaster.
“This year, we are bigger and better than ever,” Dub said. “We have more rice, food and games than we’ve ever had here … on the first of every month we are unveiling what’s either new to the company or has never been to that specific fair (in Imperial).”
The Mid-Winter Fair is not the only fair to receive new rides, said Dub, with Helm and Sons announcing a new ride on the first of every month.
Helm and Sons followed through with their promise, and on March 1, Helm and Sons finally debuted PLUR for the local Media Day event.
The PLUR is the second tallest ride within this year’s carnival, beat only by Hems and Son’s 100-foot-tall Ferris Wheel, the marketing duo said.
In addition to the highs and lows a rollercoaster can bring, the 4-seater coaster cars will also spin 360-degrees as the cars climb up and roll down the coaster track.
Both Dub and Gonzalez expressed excitement at Helm and Sons returning to Imperial County, with Dub returning for the second time and Gonzalez arriving for the first time, describing the local people they have met here as being very friendly and the food very good.
“I love it here … we’re inviting everybody out to this fair, even people from San Diego and from Yuma,” Gonzalez said. “We’re trying to get everybody to come out here because we really did bring out everything we possibly could,” he said.
