Mental Health Awareness Month celebrated at IVC
Imperial Valley College (IVC) is proud to announce its participation in Mental Health Awareness Month throughout May. The college organized a series of events and activities aimed at promoting mental health awareness and wellness among students and employees.
As part of the awareness campaign, IVC introduced "Wear Green Wednesdays," encouraging individuals to wear green attire in support of Mental Health Awareness Month. This initiative has fostered a sense of unity among the college community, with participants coming together to form a symbolic green ribbon.
IVC prioritizes mental health education and arranged Mental Health First Aid Training and Certification for students and employees.
Highlights of the month-long celebration were a Mental Health Festival, that took place from May 15th through May 18th. The festival encompassed a variety of activities including Canvas painting, Fitness, pet therapy, and games, Mental Health Career Day and Mental Health Fiesta featuring a DJ, prizes, and food. Special guest speakers included IVC President/Superintendent Dr. Johnson, ASG Itzel Landeros, Active Minds President Bertha M. Frausto, and the IVC Director of Student Health Services Lupita Castro.
IVC recognizes the importance of student well-being and organized Wellness Workshops for Students, covering topics such as Resiliency, Fitness, Nutrition, and Stress Management. To help students combat stress, IVC will host Stress-Free Week, featuring pet therapy and games, from May 30th to June 1st, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m.
In addition to the mental health initiatives, the IVC Student Health Center offers COVID19 self-test kits to students and employees. These kits are available at the Student Health Center, located in Building #1536.
May is nationally recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month, and IVC is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness and supporting the well-being of its students. We invite everyone to join us in these events and activities as we strive to create a campus and community that prioritizes mental health.
