IVC celebrates the 2023 publication of El Corazón with an artists' reception

-

The Spencer Library and Learning Services faculty and staff are proud to present El Corazón, a prestigious journal publication that celebrates the artistic achievements of Imperial Valley College (IVC) students. Serving as a platform for creative expression, El Corazón offers students the opportunity to showcase their work and have selected submissions published and displayed in print, on the Library webpage, and within the Library itself.

El Corazón, meaning "The Heart" in Spanish, perfectly encapsulates the journal's essence as a reflection of the passion and talent that resides within IVC's student community. This initiative, brought to life by the dedicated faculty and staff of the IVC Library, aims to provide students with invaluable opportunities to share their artistic creations with a broader audience, both within the college and beyond.

The annual El Corazón publication features various artistic categories, including photography, poetry, painting, music, creative writing, drawing, and graphic arts. It showcases the diverse talents nurtured within IVC and provides a platform for students to express their creativity across different artistic mediums. Students have the chance to submit their work, and those selected will have their pieces featured in the journal, displayed prominently in the Library, and showcased on the Library website.

A noteworthy aspect of El Corazón is the integral role played by IVC's graphic artist interns. These talented students, pursuing certificates and degrees in the arts, design their own logos for each year's publication. Their contributions as interns are invaluable, as they play a pivotal role in the production of El Corazón. Without their dedication and creativity, this publication would not be possible.

Betsy Lane, Dean of Arts, Letters & Learning Services, expressed her excitement for El Corazón, stating, "This publication is a testament to the incredible talent and creativity present within the Imperial Valley College student body. El Corazón provides a platform for students to share their artistic achievements, gain recognition, and inspire others with their work. We are immensely proud of the students' dedication and the support from the entire IVC community."

The second release of El Corazón has created an anticipation each year, to look forward to, as it not only showcases the artistic prowess of IVC students but also reinforces the college's commitment to nurturing and celebrating the creative spirit within the campus community.
