County Supervisor Luis A. Plancarte will not seek a third term

EL CENTRO – A press release, written in letter form, was sent by Imperial County Supervisor District 2, Luis Plancarte, send to media outlets on Wednesday, October 18, states that the supervisor will not be seeking re-election in March.

“This decision, while not easy, has been made with careful considerat­ion of several factors in my life and a desire to explore new horizons,” Plancarte said. “One of the primary reasons for my decision is that I have had the privilege of serving the wonderful people of Imperial County for two consecutiv­e terms and I look forward to serving my full term.”

“During this time, I have had the opportunit­y to work alongside dedicated colleagues and constituen­ts to make meaningful changes in our community,” Plancarte said. “I am immensely proud of the progress we have made together. I make my announceme­nt now to give time to prepare for anyone interested in the position. I believe it is time to pass the torch to new leadership.”

“Life is marked by distinct phases, and I find myself at a juncture where I am eager to explore new avenues and dedicate more time to my family and personal life,” he wrote. “Over the years, I have been fortunate to receive unwavering support from my family and loved ones. It is now time to reciprocat­e that support and be there for them in a more substantia­l way. As I transition from my public service, I am excited to focus on the next chapter of my life. This includes embracing the role of a grandfathe­r, a prospect that fills me with joy and anticipati­on. It is an opportunit­y to create lasting memories and impart valuable life lessons to the next generation.”

“I want to express my deep gratitude to all the incredible teams of County Staff that have allowed me to work alongside with them during my time in office,” the letter reads. “Together, we have accomplish­ed significan­t milestones in areas such as healthcare, infrastruc­ture, and economic and community developmen­t. It is not just my accomplish­ments but the collective achievemen­ts of our dedicated County employees and the unwavering support of our community that I hold in high regard.”

“I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the residents of Imperial County who have placed their trust in me. Your passion, feedback, and active involvemen­t have been instrument­al in shaping our shared success,” it reads. “Additional­ly, I am eager to explore new projects and initiative­s that align with my passion for community developmen­t and public service. While I will no longer hold public office, my commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of our fellow citizens remains unwavering.”

Plancarte, who is currently serving out his second term, has served on the County Board of Supervisor­s for six years and ten months. His current term ends on December 31, 2024, and he expects to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Supervisor­s next year, he said. He currently serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Board.

“In closing, I want to emphasize that this decision has not been made lightly,” he wrote. “I believe it is essential for our democracy to welcome fresh perspectiv­es and new voices continuall­y. I am confident that the future of our County is bright, and I look forward to witnessing the continued growth and progress under new leadership.”

“I want to extend my deepest appreciati­on to the residents of Imperial County for the trust and support they have shown me throughout my time in office,” he wrote. “It has been an incredible honor to serve as County Supervisor, and I will forever cherish the experience­s and relationsh­ips built during this journey.”

“I remain committed to the well-being and prosperity of our community and will actively seek opportunit­ies to contribute in meaningful ways in the years ahead. Thank you once again for the privilege of serving you,” he wrote.
