Westmorland School holds ribbon cutting to celebrate new walking track
WESTMORLAND – Students, staff and community gathered around in excitement on December 21, 2023, to celebrate the ribbon cutting of the Westmorland Elementary School’s new walking track, which was made possible through a donation of $130,000 by BHE Foundation in 2021. BHE Renewables Marketing and Community Relations Manager, Bari Bean, attended on behalf of BHE Foundation to join in the ribbon cutting and ceremonial first walk around the track with Westmorland School and Imperial County officials. “BHE Foundation is pleased to support this project in the Westmorland community that has created new health and wellness opportunities for students,” said Bean.
Westmorland Elementary School Superintendent, Richard J. Cordero, shared a statement about the project during the event, “On behalf of the entire Westmorland Elementary School community, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your exceptionally generous donation of $130,000. This impactful contribution has enabled us to fulfill a long-awaited dream–a welcoming and safe walking track for our students. The walking track that you graciously supported us in creating represents more than just a physical space. It stands as a cornerstone in promoting the health and wellness of our students. Its establishment has already sparked enthusiasm and excitement among our young learners, encouraging them to engage in regular physical activity and adopt a healthier lifestyle. With the installation of this track, our students now have a safe and accessible space where they can engage in daily physical exercise. Research consistently demonstrates that regular exercise not only contributes to physical fitness but also significantly enhances emotional wellbeing. The availability of this outdoor facility has fostered an environment that cultivates a positive mindset, reducing stress and promotes mental health among our students. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for your unwavering commitment to the betterment of our community’s youth. Your generosity will undoubtedly have a lasting impact, creating a healthier and happier environment for generations of students to come.”
“Imperial County appreciates BHE Foundation and their continuing support of our community. The Westmorland School track is providing a wonderful community benefit to our youth. We thank and applaud BHE Foundation,” said Ryan Kelley, Chair, Imperial County Board of Supervisors.
