LA JOLLA- This Saturday, May 25th at 4:00 p.m. at the University of California-San Diego campus a unique CIF-San Diego Section Divisional championship scenario will take place when two Southeastern Conference teams from the same school will be playing side-by-side.
The games involve the Imperial High Tiger baseball and softball teams who will be competing for the CIF-SDS Division IV baseball championship at the UCSD Triton Baseball Field while the Tiger softball team plays simultaneously for the CIF’s Division II softball crown at the Triton Softball Field.
The Imperial softball team will be making their second consecutive appearance in a CIF-San Diego Section Divisional Playoff championship game under coach Ashley Caro-Brown after winning the Division III championship last year.
The Imperial Valley League champion and CIF-SDS Division II top-seeded Tigers (263-1, 8-1 IVL), will square off against the D-II second-seeded Eastlake High Titans (21-11) of Chula Vista.
In a twist of irony, the two teams were scheduled to meet in March in a Hilltop High Tournament game in Imperial which Eastlake fortified to Imperial, refusing to travel to the Valley.
The Imperial High Tiger baseball team is headed to the CIF-San Diego Section’s Division IV championship game at the Triton Baseball field to meet the University City High Centenarians whose campus is just minutes from UCSD.
The Desert League champion and Division IV third-seeded Tigers (24-7, 9-0 DL) will face
D-IV top-seeded University City (26-5) after eliminating second-seeded Monte Vista on Thursday.
The Tigers return to the CIF-SDS championship game under coach Javier Ramos who led his 2018 Imperial team to the Division III championship game.
The CIF-San Diego Section has announced admission at Saturday’s games will be $15.00 per adult and $9.00 for seniors/students and are available via the CIFSDS’s official online ticketing partner gofan.com which can be accessed directly or at cifsds.org.
According to maxpreps.com and CIF-SDS, Saturday’s games will also be available on Live Stream on a pay-perview basis by the NFHS Network (nfhsnetwork. com) for a one-month fee of $11.99 which will allow viewers to watch the games live or later on-demand.
