HGTV STAR IN NASTY BATTLE WITH HIS EX
Color Splash’s David Bromstad is dragged to court after his ex makes shocking allegations
Their romance started in the sweetest way. “We met on Valentine’s Day at a singles’ party,” HGTV star David Bromstad explained in a 2012 interview, revealing how he began dating FBI officer–turned-policeman Jeffrey Glasko back in 2004. “We fell in love immediately.”
Thirteen years later, they’re locked in a nasty legal battle. Following their 2015 split, Jeffrey filed a civil lawsuit against David, 43, for breach of an oral nuptial-like cohabitation contract and partition of the condo they shared. In Touch has exclusively learned that Jeffrey alleged that David — the positive, energetic designer and Color Splash host who’s been an HGTV staple since he won Design Star in 2006 — left him emotionally and financially devastated after David got caught up in a dark world of sex and drugs. A Miami-dade County, Fla., circuit court judge said some allegations in the lawsuit were “among the most scandalous I’ve ever reviewed” and struck the allegations from the suit.
But Jeffrey’s amended complaint — filed in December 2015 — included similarly shocking accusations. “On or about 2010, [David] began using funds shared with [Jeffrey] to pay for illicit drugs and prostitutes resulting in a loss of trust and confidence,” legal papers exclusively obtained by In Touch charged. “[David’s] promiscuous sex and rampant drug abuse undermined the foundation of trust and confidence he shared with [Jeffrey].” Again, the judge ruled against Jeffrey, striking out the shocking allegations and eventually dismissing his breach of contract claim. (The judge has yet to rule on how to split the proceeds from the sale of the former couple’s condo.)
David denies all the allegations. “These salacious claims were made by a desperate person,” his lawyer, William V. Roppolo, tells In Touch, adding, “the allegations are part of a lawsuit that has been dismissed in Mr. Bromstad’s favor with sanctions levied against [Jeff rey Glasko].” Jeff rey’s attorney did not reply to a call seeking comment. In court papers of his own fi led on Jan. 17, David’s attorney called Jeff rey’s request that David sit for an unnecessary deposition “harassment” and accused Jeff rey of subjecting David to “unnecessary torment and embarrassment.”
But Jeffrey isn’t going away. David’s ex has launched the stillunder-construction website thereal davidbromstad.com, on which he plans to tell his side of the story. The battle with David, predicts an insider, is “going to get nastier.” ◼
