CAN LIZA BE FORGIVEN?
When we last left off with Liza (Sutton Foster) in the jaw-dropping Season 3 finale of Younger, her 20-something boyfriend, Josh ( Nico Tortorella), was about to propose to her — until he walked in on her kissing her 40-something boss, Charles ( Peter Hermann). The consequences from that incident are being felt in Season 4, but the first three episodes focus on the friendship fallout between Liza and her co-worker Kelsey ( Hilary Duff ), who Liza finally came clean to about lying about her age. Chelsea feels betrayed, but when Liza wants to also tell the truth to their bosses Kelsey discourages her from doing so, fearing it would jeopardize the future of Millennial Books. Kelsey even helps Liza get more millennial on social media ( Liza doesn’t know what a meme is). But that doesn’t mean she trusts her — and their fractured friendship makes for a plotline both heartwrenching and hilarious (it’s fun to see Kelsey be snippy instead of sweet to Liza). And true to the show’s smart sitcom-meets-sexy soap opera form, it also sets the table for a season of comic twists and dramatic turns.
